Accessible motorway services

Facilities for disabled drivers, passengers and families across UK motorway service areas.

Accessibility features at UK motorway services

UK motorway services vary widely in their accessibility provision. The information here is compiled from operator data and on-site reporting. If you spot anything out of date or missing, please use the contact link at the bottom of the relevant service page.

Below, you can browse services by the specific accessibility feature you need. Each service page lists every accessibility facility confirmed at that site.

Services with Changing Places facilities

Changing Places toilets are larger, fully accessible toilets with adult-sized changing benches, a hoist and enough space for an assistant or carer. They are essential for around a quarter of a million people in the UK who cannot use standard accessible toilets.

46 UK motorway services have a Changing Places facility.

Services with baby changing facilities

Most UK motorway services have baby changing facilities, though location and condition vary by site. 128 services are confirmed to have baby changing.

Disabled parking at motorway services

All major UK motorway service areas provide Blue Badge parking bays near the main building entrance. The number of bays varies by site; larger services typically have 6 to 12 dedicated bays. Individual service pages list the specific number where confirmed.

Blue Badge bays at motorway services are free of charge for the standard parking duration (typically two hours). Stays exceeding the free period are charged at the standard rate.

Assisted refuelling

Drivers with disabilities who cannot operate a fuel pump independently can request assisted refuelling at any UK motorway forecourt. Operators are required to provide reasonable assistance under the Equality Act 2010.

Some services have dedicated accessible pumps with lower controls or wider bays. Check the individual service page or call ahead if you need confirmation before setting off.

Building access

All modern UK motorway service buildings are step-free from the car park to the main concourse. Older buildings have been retrofitted with ramps where original steps existed. Bridge-style services — where the main building spans the carriageway — have lifts to the bridge level.

If you need confirmation of step-free access at a specific service before travelling, check the operator's website or contact us.
