Built to WCAG 2.1 AA
motorwayservices.co.uk is designed and built to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This is the standard recommended by the UK government for public-facing websites and the threshold most assistive technologies are tested against.
Where we fall short of this standard, we treat it as a bug and prioritise a fix.
How the site works for you
- Every page can be navigated using only a keyboard.
- Text contrast meets or exceeds 4.5:1 against backgrounds.
- Interactive elements have visible focus indicators.
- Images have descriptive alt text where they convey information.
- Headings are structured logically so screen readers can navigate the page.
- Page content reflows cleanly down to 320px viewport width.
- Forms have associated labels and clear error messages.
- No content auto-plays, flashes, or moves without user action.
Assistive technologies
The site is tested for compatibility with current versions of:
- NVDA and JAWS screen readers on Windows
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- TalkBack on Android
- Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or function
- Keyboard-only navigation across all interactive elements
Where we are not yet compliant
We are not aware of any AA failures across the core site experience. If you find one, we want to hear about it.
